One of the southern cities of the Salento area, Matino has a sweet climate all the year round. Built on the western side of the most beautiful spot in Serra di S. Eleuterio, is only 9km. from Gallipoli, 32km. from Santa Maria di Leuca and 38 from Lecce. The ancient village, now the heart of the Matino  city centre, had been built between two rocky channels : The Universo and The Reale, near the S. Ermete cave.

Particulary interesting are : the XIVth century Palazzo Marchesale, the court houses, the Matrice Church and  the Pietà Church with its XV° century Arch. There are also lots of caves and ruins, as witnesses of ancient tribes.

The whole area is a DOC one and most of our wines are exported.
